If you live in Richland, you can now expect to pay higher property taxes. In a meeting Tuesday night, the City Council decided by a four to three margin to increase property taxes by 1%.
This is the most the council can raise the tax, according to state law. It will cost the taxpayer $3.31 for every $1,000 of property value.
City officials say the increase allows Richland to have a balanced budget and provide needed public services like the police and fire departments. Richland must also pay $130,000 more in jail costs this year.
