Yakima County Republicans Looking for Deccio Replacement
Yakima, WA - Yakima County republicans must come up with some replacement options for retiring state senator Alex Deccio.
The Republican Central Committee, which represents the county will vote on three candidates, then it's up to county commissioners to pick the one they like the most. They'll have sixty days to do that.
Jim Tierney chairs the central committee. He says their just getting started with the process now. The key is getting the best candidate before the next legislative session starts.
"The important issue is to have a person appointed prior to the start of session so that the individual will seniority over anyone who was elected on Tuesday. It's important to have a person in place prior to January 8th."
So who are some possible replacements for Deccio... Tierney says out going state rep from the 14th district Jim Clements, businessman Curtis King and attorney Al Schweppe are all names that have come up.
