Soldier's family copes with his injuries

SELAH, Wash -- Dave Metti and his wife Denise received a cal last New Year at 4 a.m. and instinctively knew it was bad news.

Their worse fears were confirmed. Their son, Evan had been injured while serving in Iraq and sustained serious brain injuries.

Over the next six months Denise stayed with Evan, while Dave Metti shuttled between Selah and Bethesda, Maryland.

Now in Seattle, Evan continues to receive treatment and is in a state of minimum responsiveness -- though is improving.

All of his medical bills are paid for by the Army and the Veterans Affairs Administration but outside costs continue to mount for his family. Denise spends most days at the hospital in Seattle with Evan, and most nights in a hotel room, or will travel back to Selah.

Family and friends are stepping in to raise money for the Mettis. On Sunday, November 19th they will hold a benefit dinner to raise money for the family.
