Pasco Woman has prescription problems
PASCO, Wash. - A local woman was having trouble finding a doctor to prescribe her medications and she thinks part of the reason is because she is a former patient of Dr. Alan Hunt.
Hunt is under investigation and accused of over-prescribing narcotics to patients.
Lora Merrow said she has had trouble getting prescriptions filled but also thinks being on Medicaid is part of the problem.
Merrow suffered from Polio as a child and said she still has problems as a result. She has asthma, severe allergies, a skin disorder that nearly killed her and has recovered from Colon and Kidney Cancer.
Merrow said she knows her medical problems are a lot to handle for any doctor, but said she feels like people are treating her like a drug addict.
Merrow said, "It's very frustrating. You call, get put on hold, so they can ask this person and that person. Then they might get back to you the next day or three or four days later. It's like they can careless."
Merrow said many local doctors offices did not want to be bothered with her.
Local medical experts said private physicians have to balance the number of Medicaid patients they have and said there are not a lot of doctors that specialize in chronic pain in our area.
