La Salle Lightning Keep Thundering OnPosted: Updated:
YAKIMA, Wash. - The La Salle football stands two wins away from the 2B State Football Championship. The Lightning passed the first two tests of the post-season with flying colors.
In the first round, La Salle blasted DeSales 41-19. In the quarterfinals at West Valley, La Salle pulled off what has to be considered an upset. The Lightning stunned top-ranked and defending state champion Reardan 32-14. The Chiefs scored first in the game, but La Salle rolled up two straight scores to head into half-time 13-7.
Lightning head coach Jack McMillan told KNDO he knew his team was special when they shutout then undefeated Kittitas in a regular season meeting. But "Lightning" Jack is even prouder of what the team accomplished against #1 Reardan.
"The kids really rose to the challenge," said McMillan "We told them all week, if you're going to play the best and be the best, you have to be in there with them."
Now as the highest ranked-team left, La Salle could be considered a favorite the rest of the way.
In the semi-finals, La Salle faces Life Christian on Saturday. It's a 1:00 kickoff from Pasco's Edgar Brown Stadium. Pasco's field features aritificial turf. The Lightning haven't played much on turf this season, while Life Christian has played nine of its eleven games on turf.
