Both the U-6 Oh Boy! Oberto and the U-21 will be getting new boats and one man will be behind the builds.  Dale Van Weiringen is working with both race teams.

In San Diego, Van Weirengen stopped by the Freedom Racing team HQ to take a look at the charred remains of the U-21 after it caught on fire in Seattle in 2006.  He determined that it would take about the same of time to re-build the boat, and about the same money to make the boat competitive.

After denying it for weeks, the team made the decision to build anew.

Van Weirengen no stranger to hydroplane building.  In fact, he's the go-to guy for race teams.  He got his start in 1982, working with Jim Lucero on the Atlas Van Lines.

Van Wieringen developed the composite shop, tooling, and produced composite components for five complete Miss Budweiser boats.  The Bud boats now race as the U-5 and U-7.  He was involved with the re-make of the U-37 Miss Seattle.  Add in the U-16 Miss Elam Plus and the U-3 piston boat and you've got a pretty impressive track record.

Both boats are expected to be ready by the 2007 season.
