Local officers offer alternatives to drunk driving
KENNEWICK, Wash. - At 22 years old, Samantha Semmern was filled with life.
"She was always a go getter always an over achiever and she knew what she wanted," said Semmern's mother Linda Fastabend.
Last summer as Samantha was driving through a green light at the intersection of Van Giesen Street and the Bypass Highway her car was struck. Benton County Prosecutors said David Pleake was drunk and had open beer cans in his truck causing him to crash into Samantha's car.
"I would never want to hurt anybody due to drinking and driving and I'm glad that I was detained under circumstances that didn't involve hurting somebody," said one man recently convicted of drunk driving who didn't want to be identified.
"She was going to do so much more," said Fastabend.
Samantha's family said the loss of their daughter serves as a reminder of how important one decision can be.
