Becoming A Savvy Online Shopper
KENNEWICK, Wash. - Some people who want to avoid holiday crowds, buy gifts online. But before you type in your credit card information, the Better Business Bureau wants you to be a savvy shopper.
Shopping for some people on your list can be tough enough without dealing with long lines, and crabby customers. So instead of braving the herd, some prefer to click the mouse. But first know what you're getting into.
When you go to pay for an item, check the bottom of the screen for the little pad lock, that means the site is secure. If you don't see one you can right click on the screen, scroll and click on "Properties". If you see the connection is encrypted, don't worry about finishing the sale.
Local Better Business Bureau representatives said you'll be glad you took the time.
"You're giving the company that you're dealing with all of your personal information whether it's your credit card, your bank information, phone number, or address - you want to safeguard that information," said Norma Miller, Better Business Bureau.
