Pasco Woman Loses 100 Pounds!
PASCO, Wash. - Obesity is a problem that plagues our country and some even call it an epidemic. For many people, weight loss is a hard, uphill battle but one Pasco woman made it to the top of the hill.
Becky Schouviller lost over 100 pounds within a year and a half. The 45-year-old Pasco native used to wear a size 24 pants and now she wears a 10.
She said, "It's hard to realize I was that heavy. I have relatives that don't recognize me anymore."
Schouviller said it all started about a year and a half ago when her blood pressure was too high. She said she could not get up the stairs without being out of breath, so she decided it was time for a change.
Then she found TOPS, Take Off Pounds Sensibly, which is an international weight loss support group.
The group meets weekly and each member is privately weighed. Members then announce how much weight they have gained or lost for the week.
TOPS Area Captain leader Jyl Purington has been a member for 14 years. She said, "I don't know how much I would weigh if I didn't belong to TOPS because coming every week, having to face that scale and all the other members makes me know I can still get to my goal."
Schouviller said the support from other group members is amazing. She said exercise is her biggest challenge, "I'm a couch potato by nature. I don't like moving, but I found that I like walking."
Purington said everybody in the support group is going through the exact same thing.
