PULLMAN, Wash - Ivory Clark and Daven Harmeling each scored 12 points tonight to lift Washington State to a 62-to-50 victory over Portland. The Cougars improved to 7-and-oh for the first time since the 1993-94 season -- the last time they played in the N-C-A-A tournament. Jamie Jones led Portland with 12 points and nine rebounds. At 2-and-6, the Pilots are off to their worst start since a 1-and-11 start in 1990-91. Washington State shot 48 percent from the field, compared with 34 percent for Portland. The Pilots were charged with 22 turnovers, six more than W-S-U. Portland had 15 turnovers by halftime, when W-S-U led 32-to-20. Washington State coach Tony Bennett is the first Pacific-10 Conference coach to start 7-and-oh in his first year on the job since Marv Harshman started with seven straight wins with Washington in 1971-72.
