New Test and Counties Coming to Yakima Immigration Office
YAKIMA, Wash. - The Yakima office of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services will soon serve more counties in our area.
Right now, they serve Yakima, Kittitas and Klickitat counties. But a deal to add Benton, Franklin, Grant, Douglas and Chelan has been approved. Immigrants in those counties currently have to travel to Spokane to get their citizenship.
In Yakima, they'll be able to help U.S.C.I.S. try out a new civics and history test. Yakima is one of 10 cities across the nation chosen to participate in a pilot study.
The new test questions are more conceptual questions about U.S. government, to help immigrants understand the principles behind it.
