Food bank's freezer goes kaput

YAKIMA, Wash --

YAKIMA, Wash -- They spend their days helping other, but now they need help themselves.

The Yakima Food Bank recently discovered that the compressor in their large walk in freezer died, and needs to be replaced. They managed to save all of the food in the freezer by storing it in other smaller freezers, but they rely on the large freezer for valuable space.

A new compressor is estimated to cost about $4,000.00. -- which they don't have. In past years, the food bank could turn to the govenment for funds.

"Within the last three or four years the state has really cut back in funding," said Ruth Lawson.

Fortunately, if it had to happen, this is as good a time, explained Lawson. People are always very generous in November and December.
