WAPATO, Wash. - The City of Wapato is under the same budget crunch as their neighbors in Toppenish.
Wapato mayor Jesse Farias and city council members held a preliminary budget hearing on Monday night at city hall.
And after the city manager handed out the preliminary budget overview, the people of Wapato learned that the city just over a million dollars in the red.
Farias said the city council will be forced to make some tough choices concerning the budget.
They'll meet on the next two consecutive Saturdays to work on the budget.
If the council can't reach an agreement, they'll have to schedule a special meeting at the end of the month to adopt a budget.
Farias and the council set December 18 as the final budget hearing.
