Tri-Cities Veterans Honor Pearl Harbor Victims

KENNEWICK, Wash. - Veterans in the Tri-Cities gathered at the Veterans Memorial at Columbia Park in Kennewick to honor people who died in the Pearl Harbor attack.

The Tri-Cities Veterans Committee President, Tom McMillin, wore a medal for Distinguished Public Service.  He received the medal from the Secretary of Defense for bringing the memorial to the Columbia Park.

McMillin was only 10-years-old when the Japanese attacked but remembered the event vividly.

McMillins said, "The whole city was in pandemonium especially downtown Minneapolis.  I was waiting for a streetcar to take my little brother home from a movie.  We came out of the movie theater and the streets were just wild."

McMillin joined the Navy when he was 22-years-old.  He and his late wife, Joyce were vital in bringing the Veterans Memorial to Columbia Park.
