Richland Dog Rescued From Island
RICHLAND, Wash. - Bailey's parents were glad to have him home Sunday night. The 7-year-old beagle took off running after deer and went for a swim in the Columbia River.
Dave Dowiak and his wife took their dog for a pleasant walk through Leslie Groves Park Sunday morning.
It was a calm walk until Bailey spotted six deer and let his natural instincts take over.
Dave Dowiak said, "The deer came running behind us. The dog saw him first and took off out of my wife's grasp and before you know it. He was off to the races, chasing after the deer."
Bailey chased the deer all the away across this river while his owners watched in despair. Dowiak said, "We were hoping for the best and holding our breath while he swam across."
Bailey made it across the river to a small island. His owners went to the Richland Fire Department who eventually got in touch with Tri-Cities Animal Control.
Animal Control Director Bruce Young said, "The little beagle is a hunting fool. He went for the deer and jumped in the river and went swimming to the island and the dog followed in hot pursuit. We were called to pick up the pouch."
Animal Control got the dog back to its owners and Sunday night Bailey was home with his family.
