KENNEWICK, Wash. - A number of citations were written for people leaving their cars unattended and running in Kennewick.
Kennewick Police said it takes several hours of paper work and manpower for them to deal with stolen vehicles. Police said it is frustrating for them when people leave their cars running and unattended.
It is a 66 dollars citation if your car is left unattended and running on your property with the door unlocked in Kennewick. Police said if the car is locked, running and parked in your driveway no citation will be issued, but if you leave it on a city street throughout Washington it will cost you 101 dollars. Different cities have different rules and regulations.
Police said it is a problem they see everyday.
Kennewick Sergeant Ken Lattin said, "People think it's not going to happen to them and the reality is that we have thieves driving through neighborhoods just looking for cars that are running and unattended."
