Beware of the Furry Christmas Gift

YAKIMA, Wash. - People who adopt pets during the holidays as gifts for loved ones should be aware of a few things before they go through the process.

Central Washington Humane Society's director Alan Landvoy said people should let their loved ones know that a pet is going to be given as a gift because it is a huge responsibility.

He also said pet gift certificates are a great alternative because they can come down and pick a pet of their choice.

"Every now and then we find some that have been given out as gifts," Landvoy said. "They, it just doesn't work out because it is a surprise and of course we're trying to find once an animal leaves here to get to a happy home."

Landvoy said people can adopt pets at a cheaper rate, starting Saturday through December 23.
