Port of Kennewick Hauls Out Old Boat Dock

KENNEWICK, Wash. - The Port of Kennewick is beginning to overhaul the marina on Clover Island.

Thursday crews hauled off an old covered boat dock to make room for the new project. The Port of Kennewick wants to throw in an $8.6 million marina at Clover Island. And it needs to clear out the old, to make room for the new.

The Port hauled off one of the covered boating docks installed in the 1960's. And plans to move out the rest of the docks East of Yacht Club.

In its place the Port will put in new covered docks to handle bigger boats staying overnight, and a separate dock for boaters coming in and out during the day.

"Our current marina is too small to accommodate the vessels we're seeing today. It was fine for the 60's, but the boating community has outgrown it. We will have a marina that will be good for the next 50 years," said Larry Peterson, Port of Kennewick.

Peterson said they'll finish half the project by May 2007, and the other half by May 2008.
