Secretary of State Promoting Washington Heritage Center
PASCO, Wash.- Washington Secretary of State Sam Reed was in town Friday promoting the new Washington Heritage Center.
The Secretary of State wants people to know about the state they live in, and the center will do exactly that.
Reed met with local officials to discuss his vision for the proposed center.
The center would house the state library, archives and museum on the capitol campus in Olympia.
Reed thinks bringing these resources together is important for ensuring people know their history.
"It's fundamental for people to understand their community's history, their family history, this is one way they can learn," Reed said.
"We have records that they can use to do that kind of research, but also I think it's important as a matter of civics for people to be able to cast an informed ballot, they really need to have some perspective on our state and it's history."
If it's built, the center would be housed in a new building at the state capitol.
