KENNEWICK, WASH-Police bust two car thieves that are accused of taking cars from all over the Tri-Cities. They say the arrests should slow a string of recent car thefts.
Kennewick Police say that Jay Miller and Lana Benoit are responsible for as many as seven car thefts. Police say a Crimestoppers tip led them to Benoit and Miller.
They began investigating the pair and found out they drove a white-paneled van. Friday, the van was spotted near 37th and Vancouver in Kennewick. Police then surrounded and arrested the pair. They believe the pair specifically targeted vehicles left running in people's driveways.
Kennewick Police Sergeant Ken Lattin says, "We don't want you leaving your car in your driveway unattended but you should rest easy tonight because the thieves that are responsible for the rash of thefts are behind bars."
Police say that police have recovered six of the seven cars stolen by Benoit and Miller. Most of the stolen property was found on land owned by Russell Zeilenga in Finley.
