Suicide Standoffs in Richland

Police see more attempted suicides during the holidays. In Richland, officers have intervened in seven suicide attempts in less than two weeks.

Police were reminded of this earlier today when a woman with a large butcher knife refused to drop it. It caused a standoff with Richland and Kennewick Police at the west end of Columbia Park.

After about an hour, officers convinced the woman to put the knife down and then tackled her. Police encourage anyone who notices a depressed family member or friend to step in before it's too late.

Richland Police Sergeant Kevin Burger says if you come to a potentially violent situation like the one in Columbia Park today, you should stay away and not get involved. He says it is best to call police and let them deal with the situation.
