WAPATO, Wash. - The Cty of Wapato will lose one police officer and its pool.
Myor Jesse Farias spoke with KNDO on Tuesday afternoon and says they're within $140,000 of balancing the 2007 budget.
Farias says the council worked on the budget for the last nine months.
Like other cities in the valley, Wapato is looking for help with keeping its olympic-sized pool open.
However, Farias says the city won't consider bringing back the full-time police position until next year.
"It's like your own personal checking account," he said. "When you run out of money you have to make cuts some place, cut back some place else and that's at the point where the council is at. We just run out of money."
Farias says more than anything else, escalating prices are affecting their overall budget. The people of Wapato have one last chance to voice their opinions on the 2007 budget.
That's Thursday at 7 p.m. It'll be at the Wapato City Hall and it's open to the public.
