Tieton, Wash -- Governor Christine Gregoire included $1,000,000 for the City of Tieton in her budget. The grant will cover about 25 percent of the cost to rebuild the city's water system.
Before Thanksgiving, Tieton lost water pressure and dozens of pipes cracked, leaving most of its residents without running water. The cost to rebuild the water system is expected to be about 4 million dollars.
"This is a nice Christmas present," said Tieton's Mayor, Norman Joyner.
According to Joyner, the city also received a $500,000 loan from the Public Works Board to for the construction.
The money must still survive the Washington State legislative session beginning in January
Joyner hopes that construction will begin in March.
