As you start to think of what to get that last person on your shopping list, you may want to consider something that will keep them safe in case of an emergency.
The Red Cross is offering 3-day disaster safety kits in backpacks.
For $50, you can get an emergency preparedness kit that will help keep your loved one safe. It has all the essentials: blankets, flashlights, batteries, water and some food.
Red cross officials say it is a great place to start if you have someone who keeps refusing to prepare for an emergency.
Benton-Franklin Red Cross Executive Director Jeanne Jelke says, "It is a very good gift of caring because it's saying to the person that you're giving it to: I care enough about you that I would want you to survive in case of an emergency."
Jelko says that by buying a kit, you not only help a family member but help the Red Cross. The sale of the bags helps fund many of the Red Cross' projects.
