Suspect Shot and Killed By Yakima Police Identified

YAKIMA, Wash. - Yakima Police identified the suspect they shot and killed on Friday night.

39-year-old Adam Caywood of Yakima died on Friday night. Police responded to a report of a burglary in progress and wound up in pursuit of Caywood and another suspect, who may still be on the loose. This happened around North 6th Avenue and D Street.

Lieutenant Mike Merryman says the burglary report was received just after 9 p.m.

Officers who responded found two suspects who fled to a pickup truck and drove off.

Merryman says the pursuit went north through the city at low speeds, with one of the suspects jumping out of the pickup and fleeing along the way.

Merryman says that after the pickup stopped and officers got out of their vehicles, the driver of the pickup tried to run over at least one officer.

Two police officers are now on administrative leave. Police say the investigation is still ongoing.
