YAKIMA, Wash. - A fire destroyed a family's home on the 900 block of North 9th Avenue early on Monday morning.
A father and his two young sons are all okay and they'll be staying with the father's mother.
Yakima and West Valley Fire Departments were able to contain the fire within a half-hour, but it was a total loss for the family.
Captain Joe Riel of the Yakima Fire Department estimates the loss at $80,000.
Riel says the cause of the fire is still under investigation because of the extensive damage to the home.
However he says there's no suspicion of arson. A neighbor, who was awaken by the sirens this morning, hopes the family's fortunes turn around.
"I'm hoping that maybe santa claus is going to be nice to them and find them another house and help them repair their house if they own it, whatever, i know it's devastating especially if you have kids," neighbor Mary Turner said.
At first, fire officials didn't know if anyone was in the home, but after searching through the burning structure, they found the family safe at another home.
Yakima fire officials say people need to keep a close eye on their candles and heaters at all times.
