Stanfield Student Back from World Stage

Posted: Updated:

HERMSTON, Ore - Just a few months ago Stanfield High School student Matt Dunlap was preparing for the opportunity of a lifetime.  He had just qualified for the United States Poomsae team, and he was practicing for the world championships in Seoul, South Korea.

Poomsae is a form of Tae-Kwon-Do that concentrates on the artful and precise movements of the sport, not the sparring portion.  Although, at senior nationals this year in Cleveland, Matt did see his share of sparring!  Including when one of his national's teammates kicked him in the face!

For now, Matt has some down time before preparing for Junior Olympic try-outs in March.  He also says that once the weather starts getting better, he hopes to teach his sport to others willing to learn.  But if you want to catch Matt in action right now, head to a Stanfield High School basketball game!  Matt is not only a member of the 19th best Poomsae team in the world, he's plays basketball for his high school and still manages to make the honor roll!  Quite a guy!
