KENNEWICK, Wash.- Reports indicate that murder rates have risen in many cities around the nation, but the case is different in the Tri-Cities.
Kennewick's homicide rate fell from five in 2005 to only two so far in 2006.
Richland and Franklin County didn't have any, while Pasco had four, and Benton County two, down from three the previous year.
One Pasco case remains up in the air. Police are looking for Martin Lopez who they believe is now hiding out in Mexico.
Police say the lower rates are good, but not necessarily a sign of less violence in the community, but rather better healthcare and response times.
Aggravated assault may be a better measure, they say.
