TRI CITIES, Wash - Women are earning most bachelor's degrees from Washington's four-year public universities.
However, according to a new state report, men are clearly the leaders when it comes to science.
The state report found that 3/4 of all diplomas in engineering, computer and information sciences and math and statistics are earned by men. Also, men almost earned 2/3 of all physical science degrees.
The number of students applying for the new 4-year University at WSU Tri Cities is very similar to what is happening statewide, said WSU-Tri Cities Vice Chancellor of Academic Programs, Don Lynch.
"About 60% of the student body is made up of females, a little higher than what we might expect, considering the number graduating from high school is closer to 50/50," Lynch said.
Lynch said school leaders are making an effort to attract more women and minorities to the sciences.
