KENNEWICK, Wash. - A man turned his back for a minute, only to see a dark colored mid-size car driving off. He soon realized someone inside that car threw a rock at his vehicle's window and shattered it.
The vandals are using rocks to smash in the windows of parked cars. They've hit several and police said suspects face steep fines to help pay for the damaged windows. Police said the vandals will likely be charged with felonies if they're caught.
At least ten car windows were smashed in a span of 12 hours between five o'clock Monday night and five o'clock Tuesday morning. They were all near the west end of Kennewick.
Police said they have very little to go off of now and are asking for the public's help to catch the suspects.
"This is a frustrating crime because somebody out of sheer enjoyment was driving around damaging property... we'd like to hold them accountable," said Kennewick Police Sergeant Scott Child.
Child said anyone who has yet to report their car window being smashed out should do so right away.
