Area Codes Cellular Suddenly Closes Doors

KENNEWICK, Wash.- A local cell phone retailer just up and leaves over the weekend.

Area Codes Cellular on Clearwater in Kennewick is no longer there.

Customers came in Monday morning to pick up their phones, but to their surprise, the store wasn't there, and no idea where it went.

The company specialized in cell phone repairs.

Neighboring businesses say customers have been coming in all week asking where they went, but no one knows.

We tried to get in contact with the store, but no one answers the phone, and the manager's line is disconnected.

One neighbor says he didn't think anything of it when he saw them moving Saturday.

"I was driving by, I had to grab something here from the shop and I saw a semi out back of the building there and they were loading stuff up," said Shawn Winget, who owns a neighboring business.

"I noticed it was next door to Columbia Basin Satellite, who're friends of mine, so I went around front and noticed that they'd blocked off the windows with cardboard and there was a not saying that as of December 29, they're out of business."

He says he's angered because they owed him money.

A sign in the window says they're closed, but doesn't give any information to customers who say area codes has their phones.
