DUI Emphasis Pays Off
Washington State Patrol has reason to celebrate this holiday season. Troopers say extra patrols and increased visabilty paid off.
Tri-Cities Troopers made 85 DUI arrests this past holiday season. They say safer roads helped make the Tri-Cities a place with no fatalities in December. The Tri-Cities Patrol office is the only office in the state to make that report.
The 85 DUI arrests is the highest in December in many years. Washington State Patrol officials credit the hard work of troopers and the use of all available resources for the success.
Sgt. Robert Wilbur says, "We employ different tactics...We have extra people going out and working...We use all kinds of resources available because we feel strongly enough about deploying those resources in areas that we feel are important ...like taking DUIs off the road."
Wilbur says that he thinks extra patrols on Friday and Saturday nights had a significant impact this season.
He says that he hopes the success in December carries over into January.
