There are reports that the US conducted an airstrike aimed at al qaeda operatives in Somalia Monday. The airstrike was reportedly aimed at Al Qaeda members behind the 1998 US Embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania. The bombings, which both occurred on August 7th, left 257 people dead and thousands more injured. A pentagon spokesman said he had no information on the report of today's airstrike. Islamic militia have been fleeing the Somali capital of Mogadishu since it was retaken by government forces backed by Ethiopian troops. The Islamic forces were in control of the capital for six months before being forced out.
