WASHINGTON- Washington Senator Patty Murray is now the Secretary of the Senate's Democratic Caucus.
The third term Senator is now in the fourth highest role in the Senate.
She says she will use the role to push for issues that affect us here in Washington.
She hopes a new appropriations bill can be passed so projects in Washington don't get left behind.
"In Washington, we have a number of really important federally funded projects. Whether it's cleaning up Hanford, which is a very large ticket item," Senator Murray said.
"We have a lot of transportation infrastructure, Highway 12 down in Southeastern Washington is a project I've been working on for a long time."
Washington's other senator, Maria Cantwell, oversaw Senate talks Monday, presiding over the Senate for the first time since 2002.
