KENNEWICK - When suspects are violent police only have seconds to decide whether they need to pull out their gun or take a suspect down.
Right now, only three troopers in our area carry tasers but that's changing. By the end of the year, all trooper in our state will have the new tool.
Lt. Jay Cabezuala with the Washington State Patrol said the tasers will be used to stun dangerous suspects who could turn violent. He said implementing the new weapons will keep troopers safer because it will decrease the time they have to go hand and hand with a suspect.
The West Richland Police Department is the only other agency in our area to carry tasers.
Before troopers get the green light to use the stun guns, they will have to go through a training course and they'll have to be tased themselves.
