Tieton Water Costs More
TIETON, Wash. - The people of Tieton finally learning how much they'll have to pay for water in the next few years.
And as expected, they'll have to reach deep into their pockets to come up with the funds to replace the pipe breaks.
There are three rate increases that'll go into effect. The city's engineer says people should expect to pay about $15 per month over the next few years.
And people who live outside the city limits could pay more. The first increase is about $6. Then the second rate hike kicks in at around $3. After that, $4 will be added to their bills.
The people of Tieton already pay almost $23 per month for water. And the rate increases don't go well with some of the people.
"Im paying, I paid my water bill today and I know how much I paid," Phil An Salme said. "How much is it going to cost me next month?"
The City of Tieton has received grant money as well as a million dollars from the state. The city's engineer says the reason for the rate hikes are loans and their interest rates.
At Monday night's council meeting, Mayor Norma Joiner and the council decided to move ahead with the proposed plan. The rate hikes could go into effect as soon as next month.
