Storms Keep Crews Busy, But Not Cash-Strapped

YAKIMA, Wash. - Yakima public works employees have been working overtime to clean up after all of the storms we've had.

Workers were busy overnight Wednesday, clearing trees from several locations.   The city's street maintenance supervisor says the money for all of the overtime pay comes out of the snow and ice removal budget.

"Now we're into the '07 budget and so we're okay." says Wayne Deason.  "Snow and ice, and public safety are a priority to the city, so we generally have a good budget to take care of that."

Deason says you should stay away from any downed trees, because many times they land on power lines.  Call the police department, and they will send public works out to clean downed trees up.
