Officials at Kennewick General Hospital are asking for you to support their expansion plan. At a public meeting Wednesday, KGH officials said they need almost twice the amount of space.
They said they would like to put a new hospital in Southridge. This hospital would have 101 private rooms. The downtown Kennewick location would be used for both clinical and non-clinical care, some senior services, and an urgent care center.
Officials say the Tri-cCties population is growing about 3 percent per year and patient admissions between 2004 and 2006 grew by a third.
KGH President of the Board Wanda Briggs says, "This is our hometown hospital, it's a community-owned hospital, it's a vital part of our community and of the Tri-Cities and what happens to this hospital should matter to all of us."
Briggs says so far support has been almost unanimous in the meetings. There are two more meetings, on Saturday and Tuesday, both at the Benton PUD Auditorium at 7pm.
