Richland Car Prowls
RICHLAND, Wash. - As unsuspecting victims were shopping and dining at Richland businesses along George Washington Way thieves broke into their cars.
Richland Police said they received 9 reports of cars broken into at Winco, Jackson's Sports Bar, Anthony's, Denny's and the Uptown Bar. Police said they got all 9 calls between 6 and 8:30 Friday evening.
Richland Police Sergeant Brian Ruegsegger said, "These people are very brazen, in the fact that they would do this in the early evening when there's a lot of people out."
About two weeks ago Richland resident Scott Barrett's wife had her car broken into while it was parked in their driveway. The thieves only stole the car registration information, but he said it was an inconvenience. Barrett said, "It was pretty irritating. My wife had to go get another registration so that wasn't a huge expense, it was just annoying."
Car windows were smashed and personal items were taken out the vehicles including cell phones, CD's, checkbooks, backpacks and even medication. Police think all 9 cases are connected and suspect there is more than one person involved.
