Cold Weather and Police Cars

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash. - The cold weather was causing some communication headaches for Kennewick Police.

Computers inside the patrol cars that communicate with dispatch can take up to an hour to warm up because the computer's hard drive is kept in the trunk of the patrol car.

Kennewick Police said it is an inconvenience that can causes delays.

Kennewick Sergeant Brian Swartswalter said, "We deal with the same thing as anyone else does when you come out in the morning and your car's all iced over.  The windows need to be cleared and it must be safe to go."

Police said they have seen similar problems with patrol car computers in the extremely hot weather.
