Frozen Pipes + Blowtorch = Fire at Cathedral of Joy Church
RICHLAND, Wash. - A maintenance man caused a small fire when he used a blow torch to unfreeze outdoor pipes at a Richland church.
Richland Police and Firefighters responded to the Cathedral of Joy Church on Gage Boulevard to put the flames out.
No one was hurt Richland Firefighters Curt Walsh said, "It is not the safest way to thaw out those pipes. Keeping abreast of the water reports and knowing when it's coming and preparing four that is the safest method to ensure that doesn't happen."
The fire department was called when people inside the church saw smoke in the building. Police were able to put the fire out with an extinguisher before it got out of control.
