PASCO, Wash.- Columbia Basin College awarded longtime Pasco resident James Wesley Pruitt the 2007 Martin Luther King Spirit Award at a ceremony Monday.
Pruitt fought his entire life for better employment, housing and street's in East Pasco, and in 1960, he became the first African American employed by the city.
Although he passed away in July, those who knew him say he left his impact on everyone.
Much of Pruitt's family attended the ceremony.
His daughter accepted the award on behalf of her family coast to coast.
