Benton County Volunteer Firefighters Needed

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash -- Benton County Firefighters need your help. They are in desperate in need of volunteer firefighters.

With only five firefighters on staff, the department relies heavily on volunteers. Devin Helland, with Benton County Fire District #1, says the department needs about 30 more volunteers to complete the staff.

Right now, the outlying areas are where the department needs people the most. Helland says being a firefighter is very rewarding.

He says, "You could be saving your friend's life, you could be saving your friend's house, basically your helping out your community. It's a great chance for you to be the hero."

Helland says that tonight six people came to an orientation meeting. He says that if all of them sign up, it would help but more people are still needed.

If you want to volunteer you can call 734-9100.
