There is a shortage of blood in Yakima, and bad weather is to blame.
The Red Cross sends blood donations to Portland to be tested, but bad weather has made those transfers impossible.
Without these transfers in the region, some types of blood are down to only a five hour supply -- but a minimum three day supply is needed for our region...
The bad weather has also caused several blood drives in the Northwest to be cancelled. As a result, the Red Cross is reporting they are missing 1,000 blood products because of those cancellations.
The blood types in critical supply are RH- and type O, so the red cross is now issuing an urgent request for blood donors...
Donors can schedule an appointment by calling 1-800-GIVELIFE.
There are also blood drives at the Red Cross every Wednesday through Friday.
Wednesday and Thursday the drive lasts from 2 - 7 p.m., and on Fridays from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.
The Red Cross is located at 302 S. Second St., on the corner of Second and Spruce streets, and the number there is (509) 457-1690.
