Dog Helps Authorities Catch Burglary Suspect

MABTON, Wa -  Todd Simpson says property crime has been a big problem at his family's farm, but he hopes his dog's bark will help 'take a bite out of crime' from now on.

Simpson owns a border collie named Bradshaw with a nose for sniffing out the bad guy.

"He was wantin' to jump at the fence and trying to get out," says Simpson.

Bradshaw started barking at around 11pm last night.  Simpson got up to see what was going on.

"Saw the door open and light shining from the door," says Simpson, "And just legs from underneath the trailer there."

Simpson immediately called 911.

When authorities first arrived on the scene, they assumed the burglary suspect had gotten away, but that's when Bradshaw started barking again at a tractor.

That's where authorities found the burglary suspect - Jesse Gonzalez.  He was hiding underneath, curled up in his black coat.

"He was kinda biting at his shoes and continued as the cops were dragging him out," says Simpson.

The suspect was arrested and no one got away with any loot, but Simpson says he'll reward Bradshaw with an extra special treat.

"He'll get some good scraps after dinner."

The suspect - Gonzalez - has been booked into Sunnyside Jail.  He faces 2nd degree burglary and drug possession charges.  Nothing was stolen from the shop.
