TACOMA, Wash. (AP) - Shots were fired in the vicinity of Governor Chris Gregoire while she was visiting a Tacoma neighborhood Thursday afternoon.
A spokesman for the governor, Lars Erickson, says she never was in danger.
The State Patrol decided the governor should leave the area after the shots were fired, but Erickson said the governor's party had just finished its tour of a public housing development in Salishan in Tacoma at about 1:45 p.m. and was about to leave anyway.
Erickson says the State Patrol was taking precautions.
No injuries were reported and there is no indication the shots were related to the governor's visit. Police are searching a nearby wooded area after receiving reports of a man with a rifle.
