FINLEY, Wash - A home in Finley was destroyed in a fire that started around 2 p.m. Thursday.
It happened at 206004 Highway 397 in Finley. Firefighters from Benton County, Kennewick, Pasco and Walla Walla were there. Washington State Patrol Troopers and Sheriff's Deputies directed traffic.
Benton County Fire District #1 Captain, Jeff Ripley explained why firefighters were on the roof, even though the flames were coming from the basement.
"They were giving the fire a chance to escape the structure by cutting a hole up there and letting all the heat out, generally that is a common tactic. It is a whole lot easier to repair a hole than it is to rebuild a structure like that," Ripley said.
No one was hurt, Ripley said.
The cause is being investigated, though Ripley said it may have started in the basement.
