Man Arrested After Running from Kennewick School

KENNEWICK, Wash. -- A man runs away from an elementary school, leaving police to worry about his motives. Police were patrolling in Kennewick early this morning when they saw Rusty Bottoms take off from Canyon View Elementary School. Police ran after him, but lost him.

Three hours later, they found him hiding on the top of a motorhome. He was arrested for 2nd degree trespassing and outstanding warrants for escape and driving while his license was suspended.

Kennewick Police Corporal Glenn Ball said, "If you don't own the property and you're not visiting anyone, then you don't have a right to be there. You are trespassing!"

Police say they put extra patrols near schools and other public buildings during the early morning hours to protect against trespassers. They say these extra patrols have drastically cut crime in the area.
