Freezing Rain Causes Wrecks

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash. -- Freezing rain is creating havoc on area roads. Washington State Patrol responded to as many as twenty wrecks in the Tri-Cities region alone Saturday night.

Many accidents happened when cars were trying to change lanes. A green Mustang was heading east on I-82 in Kennewick and tried to pass a snowplow when it lost control, hitting the snowplow. Fortunately, the damage was minor and neither driver was seriously hurt. But, troopers have this warning for drivers.

Trooper Jason Davis says, "What really causes people to lose control is a change of momentum, which is slowing down or speeding up or anytime you change momentum or direction. You are more likely to lose control.

The Department of Transportation de-iced the roads on Saturday. Troopers say if you can, stay in the right lane because this is where DOT trucks work first.
