BENTON CITY, Wash. - Some parents in Benton City are worried the Kiona-Benton School District isn't doing enough to keep sex offenders away from their children.
The parents claim the school is dropping off their children right in front of a level three sex offender's home.
Every day 7 to 8 students who attend Kiona-Benton Elementary and Middle School get dropped off on the corner of 1st Street and Babs Ave. But that's right in front of the home of Daniel Davenport, convicted of first degree child molestation.
Some of the parents are asking the school district to have the bus drop their children off down the street. But the school district's superintendent said the driver would have to back up and that's more dangerous.
"Children will run out. Bus drivers are very observant and all of that, but again they have a bus load of students on often times. Backing up a school bus is dangerous, because you can't see all points behind the bus," said Gary Henderson, Superintendent Kiona-Benton School District.
Henderson said the school board also agrees not to move the bus stop.
